But hanging a winter wreath can be a magic act of its own, especially if you don’t want to make a hole in your front door. Fortunately, there are plenty of ways to hang a door wreath without making any holes, dents, or blemishes to your door whatsoever!
How to Hang a Wreath on Your Door Without Making a Hole
Before you choose a method, it’s important to know the weight of your wreath. A simple bathroom scale and cardboard box can help you find a number. Just subtract the weight of the empty box from the total. The second key detail is the type of door you have. Is it metal, wood, glass, or composite? These factors will help you choose the best method from the following options:
- Adhesive hook on the front door.
- Adhesive hook on the back with ribbon.
- A winter wreath hanger.
- Ribbon from thumbtacks on the top.
- A magnetic wreath hook.
- A heavy-duty suction cup hook.
Adhesive Hook On the Front
A clean and simple way to hang your outdoor wreath is with an adhesive hook on the front of your door. These hooks stick to any type of material, and you can buy one designed to hold the weight of your wreath. If possible, hang the wreath directly from the hook. If that won’t work, you can place the hook higher on the door, and hang the wreath from a ribbon or fishing line. For best results, remember to clean the door before you stick the hook on.
Adhesive Hook On the Back, Plus Ribbon
This method is just as simple and even more stylish than the technique above. Rather than sticking the hook on the front of your door, place it out of view on the back side. The only trick is to stick it upside down and near the top of the door. In that way, you can easily hang a decorative ribbon to drape over the front of the door for your outdoor wreath. The hook remains out of sight, and you have a beautiful ribbon instead.
Ribbon From Thumb Tacks On Top of the Front Door
Here’s another simple method that works on wood and some composite doors. Instead of using a hook, simply hang the decorated wreath from a ribbon, then tack the ribbon on the top edge of your door. Just make sure the ribbon material is strong enough to be hung from tacks. Of course, the tacks will poke a few holes in the top of the door, but they’re tiny and out of sight.
A Wreath Hanger
Wreath hangers are stylish metal holders that clamp onto the top of your door and provide a sturdy hook without any holes. With gold or brass coloring, they blend right into your other Christmas decor. The only downside is that they sometimes wear away the door frame over time, but that depends on how tightly your door closes at the top. Usually, it’s not a problem!
A Magnetic Wreath Hook
Instead of an adhesive hook, you can use a magnetic wreath hanger. Note, the kind with one magnet only attaches to metal doors. But some—with two magnets—clamp onto any style of door. One magnet on the back of the door holds the magnet hook on the front in place. Knowing the weight of your wreath, you can choose a magnet that’s strong enough to hold it.
A Heavy-Duty Suction Cup Hook
The suction cup hook is a convenient choice for glass doors or door windows, without any sacrifice of style. Simply hang the Christmas wreath so that it covers the hook from view. No holes, adhesives, or magnets are required!
