Goldmound Spirea is an impressive deciduous shrub with a rounded form which produces light gold foliage which turns bronze and red in the fall, coupled with flat-topped clusters of rose flowers in early summer. This shrub requires occasional maintenance and upkeep, and is best pruned in late winter. It attracts butterflies, is not attractive to deer, and has no significant negative characteristics. It grows to a height of 3 feet and a spread of 4 feet at maturity, with a fast growth rate and an expected lifespan of 20 years. It should only be grown in full sunlight, with average to moist soil and a neutral pH. Platt Hill Nursery stores in Bloomingdale and Carpentersville offer this variety, with their hours and store closures listed.
